November 19, 19:00 – UN Conference on Climate change: results of COP-26

Right now, the 26th conference of the countries participating in the UN Framework Convention on Climate is taking place in Glasgow. Why is it important? How should it help humanity find a way out of the climate crisis? Can anyone benefit from global warming? What position does Russia take in the negotiations? Experts and direct negotiations participants will discuss the results of one of the most anticipated events of this year.

November 20 – Conference at Higher School of Economics (HSE). Discussions about world and climate change

Global climate change and the associated climate crisis set the main agenda for the development of the world community. What happens to nature and climate? How does this affect the global economy? How are countries planning to adapt to these changes? All these questions we will discuss in a set of discussions and science talks organized with the support of the Higher School of Economics and the EU Delegation from Russia.

12:00-13:30 – Climate change: what is happening to nature?

What natural changes are triggered by global warming, and how do we know about them? Can the current climate crisis be compared with ancient warm periods? We will discuss the latest data of modern climatology, talk about the dangerous consequences of climate change and the resilience of ecosystems and territories to these changes.

November 23, 18:00 – Special screening: The shadow of gold & discussion

Special screening of a documentary about gold mining and related environmental issues. Why is gold mining the main source of mercury pollution in the oceans? What are gold miners all over the world sick with? How to change technology and what needs to be done for these changes?

After the film, we will discuss all these issues with an expert environmentalist.We will also talk about gold mining in Russia, discuss the possibilities of modern science to help solving ecological problems of the mining industry.

The accelerated pace of life in the city increases the pace of changes in nature, which is now under the boundaries of its influence. In the situation of today’s climate crisis, it is becoming increasingly necessary to observe nature in the city. What is citizen science? And how can it help scientists around the world? This discussion will focus on citizen science, various methods of monitoring nature in the city and ways to document them.
